Tully Smyth: [00:00:00] Hello, and welcome to episode 20 of too much Tali. We have made it to 20 episodes through a pandemic, mostly visor, Jess, how you feeling? Feeling great. What about your, I mean, that doesn't sound convincing. I'm feeling good. I'm feeling good. Sorry guys. We did have a bit of a plan for today's episode, but.
Things got out of control. We thought, you know what? We've given you two massive guests. The last two weeks we had my ex boyfriend Anthony drew. And then of course we had Abby Chatfield. So we thought we'd just talk shit. This episode, you guys also seem to love when Jess and I just like, shoot the breeze, you know, I'd give a bit of a life update.
Um, so we thought we'd just do this one a little bit. Easy breezy, Latin, fluffy, Jessie. You're ready. I'm ready. I have my drink of the wake, which is a Vita melon and sparkling it's like. Sparkling watermelon juice. It's delicious.
Jess Lucas: [00:00:48] You really getting around the Celts is lightly on, you
Tully Smyth: [00:00:50] know, non-alcoholic non alcoholic wise non alcoholic.
Oh. Because I'm doing this thing where I just, you know, I just don't drink all the time. Okay. Um, and it's delicious. It's so yummy. And apparently it's like pretty good for you too. So also most importantly, um, they donate 5 cents to lifeline.
Jess Lucas: [00:01:08] What the hell was that? My foreign I'm sorry, I didn't turn it on silent.
Tully Smyth: [00:01:13] I have to everything. This is funny. This is a well-oiled machine, but episode 20 jazz, you should know the rules, phone on D and D. Thank you very much. I've already spent
Jess Lucas: [00:01:21] so many troubles this morning. Haven't we
Tully Smyth: [00:01:23] already spent 20 minutes trying to get your microphone to not be yelling in my ear hose. Okay.
Let's jump into it. Ready? Yep.
Jess Lucas: [00:01:32] All right. So taste my, how are you feeling after all of the comments and dams and. Drew following me on Instagram now, since he's been on
Tully Smyth: [00:01:44] look, uh, I think, I think what's most important is that we reflect on how you handled, uh, that episode. I think if we just, um, roll the tape, there's just a little video.
I'm not sure if you've seen it or heard it yet, but if we just, instead of here,
Jess Lucas: [00:02:00] all right, Sarah said, How will Jess carte being in the same room
Tully Smyth: [00:02:04] as true? Are you
Jess Lucas: [00:02:07] disappointed? Really sad. I wanted the men bond, maybe halfway through, you can suck it in the bottle.
Tully Smyth: [00:02:11] It's like, I'm just kidding. You got to grab a
Jess Lucas: [00:02:17] bucket and a month.
Tully Smyth: [00:02:22] That varies. That looks more familiar to you. Yeah, that does get a bit at the back.
Yeah. Big boy. You're right. She's had one drink guys and she's throwing shockers with the Bendigo payback. Jess's now bright red. She's crying with laptop. What I love, I don't make sound. I just cry and go red.
Jess Lucas: [00:02:47] Uh, are you suggesting how, like how do I suppress them? Probably not.
Tully Smyth: [00:02:51] No, it was more like,
I'm actually hot for drew in the nickname because
Jess Lucas: [00:03:02] okay. Emma has said, is it hard having a face that's been carved by angels? Back off Emma,
Tully Smyth: [00:03:09] how you look at his body language? Just
Jess Lucas: [00:03:11] like don't talk to me. No, not this one. Oh, there we go. There we go. They're bulging. I can't wait to go there knowing you are working there now.
What's that hairy one?
Tully Smyth: [00:03:23] What is it?
Jess Lucas: [00:03:28] I, that,
Tully Smyth: [00:03:29] what, what are you just going to be there for like five minutes and all of a sudden you're like, well, you're holding a snake.
Jess Lucas: [00:03:39] It's like, what does he see for him? Come from.
Tully Smyth: [00:03:44] She has the car to Jess. You know, we're gonna miss you. You're my rock in the house.
Jess Lucas: [00:03:50] You're driving a wedge between us. Stop
Tully Smyth: [00:03:53] reading
Jess Lucas: [00:03:53] romantic through.
Tully Smyth: [00:03:55] I am
Jess Lucas: [00:03:56] fucking hot right now. I've had
Tully Smyth: [00:03:58] a shot guys mop on Al three for Jess and Tali. Now that's payback for the fact that you absolutely stitched me up. In front of my ex-boyfriend I playing a clip where I just basically talk about my ex-boyfriend every other episode, look, um, it's been, uh, it's been a bit of a weird week.
I won't lie. Um, So much love and support for the two of us as a couple, um, people asking us to get back together, people giving me their opinions saying, Oh, you know, I could hear the tension. I could hear that there's still love there. Um, you know, people were really hung up on the fact that he didn't actually say the words.
No, when you'd ask him, if he'd get back with me, they were like, well, he, you know, he was, he was biding his time. He didn't actually have a straight answer. He was just being playful. People are so invested in our steel. It's crazy. I knew the episode would do well. Cause you said it, it did really well with downloads and stuff, right?
Jess Lucas: [00:04:51] Yeah. I mean, it's second on overall downloads now, which is amazing.
Tully Smyth: [00:04:55] Amazing. And we got to number two on trending podcasts on Spotify, which is also incredible, but yeah, I just, they really want it to work. They really want the two of us to work. They really want to get back together. And when you spend a bit of heart, you know, it took me a good two years to get over him.
And it's been a good couple of years since then that took a lot of time and effort and work. And whilst I'm so appreciative and, and I love that people are so invested in us and just want us to be happy and want us to be together. And in love, it's kind of hard, you know, having people telling me, like, get back with you and get back with him.
Why are you guys together? And
Jess Lucas: [00:05:30] I'm like, wait. So are you telling me that the person in your soft launch videos on your Instagram isn't drew.
Tully Smyth: [00:05:40] I probably should have, I didn't think this through. Okay. I didn't think the fact that the same week, it just so happens. The same week. I dropped an episode with my ex-boyfriend is the same week.
I kind of went semipublic with someone that I've met. I haven't met someone guys. I've met someone. It's our cuts out of the bag.
Jess Lucas: [00:06:03] I mean, we all knew that from your bloody wake of romance all over your Instagram, who is he?
Tully Smyth: [00:06:08] What's he doing? Give me a break. I I've been single for so long. Like I'm really happy at the moment.
I'm having a lot of fun and. Look, it's been a bit of a weird way for me. I'm yeah, look, it's tough because I only have the one Instagram, well, I have to write, I have , which is my influencer platform that I have too much, Holly, which is for the podcast. Um, I don't know why I've thought about it over the years, getting a private Instagram for like just my actual close friends and family, but it was like, I already asked so much of them.
Like I already asked him to like follow my annoying posts and my, and my paid posts and then for my, my podcast page and support that. And so I just feel like Austin to follow a third Tali Instagram is like asking too much. Yeah. Ironically, but yeah, I mean, I had a bit of a incident happen this weekend where my privacy was invaded.
Um, not only my privacy, cause I'm fine with that. I know that what I signed up for, I understand I'm in the public. I understand I have a following. I also understand that I was putting up these little sort of little cutesy teasers here and there. Um, so that's fine. I understand that that's maybe public interest, but you know, the people I date didn't sign up for this stuff and when their privacy is invaded, that's when it upsets me and pisses me off.
So. After a little incident this week, which we will not go into because I don't want to give it any more air time. I now have a private Instagram account. Oh, amazing.
Jess Lucas: [00:07:36] Okay.
Tully Smyth: [00:07:36] Yeah, because I think after seven and a half seven and a bit years of being the public eye and sharing my, every waking thought and private moment with the public, I think it's about time.
I get some privacy too. So I have met someone. He is heaven. But
Jess Lucas: [00:07:54] we're not going to go into too many details because you probably want to enjoy this first kind of phase.
Tully Smyth: [00:08:00] And maybe that that's kind of terrifying. Even the fact that I don't want to just like tell everyone everything. Cause you know, you guys know it's what I usually do.
Um, that makes me it's, it's really scary. Because it feels like it has more white it's like, it feels like it may be something more serious. The fact that I'm this protective of it, because I'm usually so open book about it, you know? And I had so many people messaging me being like, who is it? We need to know.
And I'm kind of like, no, you don't, who says you need to know, like, people will like, who is it? You have to let us know. I was so invested. And I'm like, if I wanted you guys to know, I would have tagged him. Hey, like I will eventually I'm sure. I'm sure I'll Bentley share these beautiful man with you guys.
Um, but right now I'm just kind of enjoying it being just us. Yeah.
Jess Lucas: [00:08:44] No, that's really nice.
Tully Smyth: [00:08:46] But I do, and I, I, I'm gonna odd about the sharing of the story I am to not, I was like, no, you can't do that to him. And I was like, Hmm. You know what the people named tonight. Okay. So there were two subjects, gyms, or two, um, assumptions about this new ministry, man that I've been saying.
One was drew. And I understand why that was. Um, apparently, you know, you guys have some serious, like we'd inspect to gadgets. Like, I don't know how bored you are at the moment, but they were like zooming in on Drew's watch and zooming in on this new guy's watch. And they're the same watches they've got the same risks.
Oh my God. Yes. Just a lot of work. Just someone else's
Jess Lucas: [00:09:27] very intricate details as well.
Tully Smyth: [00:09:29] I mean, I mean their wrists I'm impressed. Um, but also don't you think if I was going on dates with her, I would, I will be sharing that. I don't know. Anyway, I understand why people are streaming that, but the other guy people were asking if maybe it could be based off my phrase, that episode is of course everyone's favorite
Jess Lucas: [00:09:48] orange one guy.
Tully Smyth: [00:09:51] Now, as we know. I did go on a date with orange wine, man. Yes. I wasn't a hundred percent into it. Um, as I think I sat on the pod last week, I wasn't a hundred percent into it. It'd been a really dragged out process. We've been talking for months in ISO, you know, he'd go away for a couple of weeks, come back, go away, come back.
Like I wasn't super invested. I, I actually had deleted, um, cleaned out my hinge profile. So I didn't even know what it looked like anymore. I didn't have photos to refer back to. Um, I assumed that maybe he might've been semi cuter. I wouldn't have slept right in the first place, but I had no idea what he's got looked like.
Anyway, I was like, you know what? No. I said months ago that I would go on a date with you once locked down East. I'm a lady of my word. One of my words, I go on a date with you.
Jess Lucas: [00:10:42] Interesting. What is happening here?
Tully Smyth: [00:10:45] Why are you getting a fucking disaster? Oh God, what happened? And I've checked with said men, and he has said, look, it'd be, you have to, you have to tell them what happened. Like, are you sure? Cause it's not great for you, but this guy's identity is very much private. No one, um, could possibly figure him out.
So I don't even follow him on Instagram. So don't even try and go looking for him guys. I definitely mean Instagram. Um, anyway, sorry. I booked the venue. Obviously I'm a control freak. I like being in charge of stuff like that. Booked the venue. But texting you out the day and he thinks he's really funny.
He's very witty. He's very intelligent. So that kept me, you know, I was like, you know what, at the very least this will be a nice dinner, um, with a new friend, maybe it is, you know, we sit down, um, he's obviously very nervous. He was cute, but I was like, you immediately on a diet. I just was like, yeah, no, no.
Like this is just not a thing it's never going to make it. You can feel that vibe as well. It's
Jess Lucas: [00:11:42] not just about their physical look. That's for sure. Straight away.
Tully Smyth: [00:11:46] I think it's chemistry. It's whether you have chemistry or not. I think I've always said this, um, feelings and emotions and love grows over time, but chemistry is instantaneous.
You either, you don't have it. Yeah. And I just knew that we didn't have it. Anyway. We sat down. And I was literally just doing the, like the initial chit-chat like, so how's your day, like how'd you get here and mid sentence, like I was literally mid, mid word is I'm really sorry. I understand. Go to the bathroom.
And I was like, Oh God, that's cool. No, that's totally fine. Like, you can hear the bathroom, like go like, and must be like ran away. I was like, he must've been like busting on the way he, like, how far did I thought was his house? Like, what do you call it before he left? Anyway. Oh, no,
Jess Lucas: [00:12:28] I can already, I feel like I know where this has
Tully Smyth: [00:12:30] told you the story.
I haven't heard this story. I actually meant to send you and Tommy a voice note with this story the day after, but did it, um, so he, um, I messaged the girls. I'm like, yeah, it's really weird. He's got the bathroom just got here. Anyway. He goes back. Um, there's like some set my new thing. Cause of COVID it was like he went, it was like 65, $65 for six dishes or like 75.
I dunno, eight. I was like, how hungry are you feeling? Are you hungry? Always like, no, actually not really hungry at all. And I was like, Oh, good. Okay. Um, like, I guess we get the small one. Then I was like just the, the set, many of the smaller one things, food arrives. He takes one. Look at it. And guys, I'm sorry, sorry, Africa through him again.
All know, and I like this can't be happening. What's going on? I was like, yeah, that's no problem. I'm just going to start eating though,
Jess Lucas: [00:13:18] at any point in this scenario, did
Tully Smyth: [00:13:20] you ask him if he was okay? No, not at this point. Okay. Not at this point. I wanted to, I thought I wanted to save from the embarrassment.
I wanted to just put, be, pretend it wasn't happening. He goes to the bathroom. I start eating. I'm like, well, I'm hungry and I get on me for dinner. So I'm going to keep eating. It comes back. He like tries to put some food in his mouth. Give him mine. We're at Japanese restaurants. So it's like real fish, like.
Have you seen that? You know that, of course you've seen it. You know, that it's one of my favorite scenes ever of any movie that's seen in bridesmaids where Kristen wig, Kirsten, we had whatever the fucking name is. She is trying not to vomit and she's like, I'm actually starving. I'd love an almond. And then she sits there and she like.
She's like socks and shoes and his arm and swishing profusely turning gray, like probably up chucking in her mouth.
Jess Lucas: [00:14:08] I mean, to be honest, when you referred to bridesmaids, I immediately thought of when she was in the wedding dress and had to run outside to shit. That's what I was thinking.
Tully Smyth: [00:14:16] Oh, you shouldn't you're shitting me straight up.
She's like, she's like go round. Um, anyway, so I can watch this poor guy try and like throw back some raw fish. I'm like, it's one. I'm like, are you okay? Like, are you okay? Do you want to, do you need to, he's like, look, I'll be honest. I was like, I'd rather you be gray. I was like, can you please? He goes, I had a, I had like a quick workout before, after when I finished, but before I came here and I had a protein shake and I've been feeling really sick ever since.
I was like, Oh my God, you should have just canceled the day. You should just rain check. He goes, no. Oh my God, I couldn't do that to you. I was like, I am a decent human being. Like I would never know if you're dating girls who get angry with you or what for being sick, then you're dating the wrong kind of people.
I was like, I would have been so understanding. I would much rather you stay at home and rest then like force yourself to come out to dinner with me. And now we're both in this position where. Um, you're going to be eating really ill. Like I could do you want to just, let's just let them, like, you're not, well, let's get the bill.
He's like, no, no. He's like, I'm here. I want to be here. I can. I want to, I want to, I want to do this. And I was like, Oh,
Jess Lucas: [00:15:23] good for him. That's nice.
Tully Smyth: [00:15:24] Okay. Okay. I like, maybe if you don't want to eat don't eight, please. We still have to eight. He's like, maybe I just want eight, then I'm thinking. Great. So we've got what?
17 dishes coming out that I'm going to sit there and eat by myself. Anyway, you went to the bathroom three or four other times. Like I was, I spent most of the night at the table by myself, texting the girls. Like eating. I felt so bad. Cause obviously Japanese is so sweet and he's so polite and the waitress didn't quite grasp why we would never, barely touching the food.
Like she's like, Oh, is everything okay? And I'm like, I'm so sorry. It's delicious. I'm eating it. Like I'm having my half. He's not feeling very well. Oh
Jess Lucas: [00:16:04] God. And so what, how did it end then?
Tully Smyth: [00:16:07] He was even in between, even when he was at the table, like he was obviously feeling so unwell. He could barely string a sentence together.
He kept like, his eyes were glossy. Like he physically looked grain. I tried like twice, two other times to like, see if he wanted to go home. He just wouldn't. Yeah. And then eventually the bill came and his point on eight and like half of the food I had gotten, like, I think half a bottle of white wine and a cocktail.
When he tried to pay for it. And I was like, mate, you didn't eat a thing. There is no way I'm letting you pay this bill. You literally didn't put a thing in your mouth. And then I felt so bad cause he looks so sick that I even, I took him home in my Ariba and made sure he got home. Okay. Hmm,
Jess Lucas: [00:16:47] that's really upsetting, but I don't.
How did he get sick from a
Tully Smyth: [00:16:49] protein shake? Look, he then admitted the next day. Cause I checked in with him. Obviously. I was like, Hey, just checking in. Like I hope you're feeling better. He's like, I'm actually not feeling better. He's like, look, to be honest, I haven't been well for about a month or sorry, I'm actually gonna get some tests done today.
So obviously there's something not quite right going on, which is, you know, hopefully, hopefully it's all good. I probably should take him to him again. But um, I think, I don't think the protein shake was a real story. Yeah, right.
Jess Lucas: [00:17:13] Okay. That makes sense.
Tully Smyth: [00:17:14] It's a better story than I had some bad food or I've been ill and them, see, I didn't even know if he was shitting or spewing.
Like, it's just,
Jess Lucas: [00:17:20] I was going to ask that, but then I thought that was the second date that you've had to look after people being sick
Tully Smyth: [00:17:27] and you know what? They had the same name. Oh, okay. They share the same name. So that's just
Jess Lucas: [00:17:34] people with that name are off limits from here on in
Tully Smyth: [00:17:36] their band paper. Would, would that name.
Uh, well, actually I, you know, I'm, I'm, I'm kind of a taken woman now. Anyway, what's new with you is we talked about me all morning. You,
Jess Lucas: [00:17:48] well, I'm back from Bendigo
Tully Smyth: [00:17:50] spent. Of course it was so good. It was so good
Jess Lucas: [00:17:53] to see my family, my sisters, uh, all my girlfriends who was still back there and their kids. Um, so it was a really nice week at home.
I, I mean, I got in trouble a little bit because of the internet, the internet shit down there.
Tully Smyth: [00:18:07] So what you were sucking all the internet?
Jess Lucas: [00:18:09] Um, no, as in, like, from our end, like that's why I tried to do out. We obviously recorded the week before. Um, just because I knew yeah, internet was going to be bad, but it was real patchy.
It wasn't great. Um, but
Tully Smyth: [00:18:21] yeah, it was nice. Like, it
Jess Lucas: [00:18:22] just felt like normal. It was good. You know, the first day we got back or I got back, um, Saying everyone. We had some wine and whatnot. We caught up and caught up on each other's lives. And then it kind of just felt like normal again.
Tully Smyth: [00:18:36] And you guys have to wear masks and Bendigo.
Jess Lucas: [00:18:39] Yeah. So it's all the same as, as Melbourne that were a little bit more lax. So you'd go out and people weren't really wearing to be honest, but, um, yeah, now it's kind of. In our mosque anywhere, which is great.
Tully Smyth: [00:18:50] Do you feel like refreshed and like reinvigorated? Like, do you feel like you've had your cup full backup with your fam?
Cause I know you're so close with your family.
Jess Lucas: [00:18:57] Yeah. Yeah. I feel, feel really good to have sane, um, mom and dad and just have hugs because I live with Lauren obviously. So just being able to come back, um, Yeah. And so family and friends and stuff, we had a 30th on the Saturday, so it was good to actually have a function or something on.
Tully Smyth: [00:19:15] Yeah. Wow. You go see this, this looks so much like you it's crazy really well, then you really start looking what the heck I said the face, you know? Yeah. Your assistant has the same
Jess Lucas: [00:19:25] mannerisms and stuff as well.
Tully Smyth: [00:19:26] And you've had, you know, you've had quite a big year, like you've had a massive year professionally, you know, and personally, and you've stopped be able to share those milestones and moments and celebrate those big wins with your family would have been really hard.
Jess Lucas: [00:19:39] Well, especially the last time I saw them, I wasn't working where I'm working now. It's kind of contracting there, but yeah. So yeah, as you say, like things have completely changed.
Tully Smyth: [00:19:50] I don't know if I want to ask this question, but I'm going to ask it regardless. Oh, God. I want to know the answer. Do your parents do the vodcast?
Jess Lucas: [00:19:57] Yeah.
Tully Smyth: [00:19:58] Mom. Does your dad?
Jess Lucas: [00:20:00] No. Dad doesn't know. Okay.
Tully Smyth: [00:20:02] So your mom knows intimately. It has about perfect.
Jess Lucas: [00:20:05] Yep. Uh, What was
Tully Smyth: [00:20:07] the Abby one
Jess Lucas: [00:20:09] about licking, pussy you about the how's that, uh,
Tully Smyth: [00:20:14] cool. Yeah, it's funny. My, my brother's a, literally my senses. Like they are the people. When I get asked to do jobs or do the podcast, they are the ones that I think.
They're the only people I care about. I'm like, you know, I'm like, are they going to find this offensive? Are they going to hate this? And then if they're going to hate it, then I won't do it. Um, I did. Did Wanda with that particular moment, I was like, Oh, should I cut it? Should I cut it? But I kept Indiana as it's.
Jess Lucas: [00:20:42] It's fine. Uh, the other thing that happened on the weekend was mom was walking around with our podcast on loudspeaker, listening to it cause she listens to it on, uh, it was Saturday and Sunday morning and I was like, mom, can you please put your headphones in? I don't want to hear my own voice. It was the drew episode as well.
And so she was like, I just hear her laughing in the other room.
Tully Smyth: [00:21:02] And I'm like, what part are you up to? And she's
Jess Lucas: [00:21:04] like,
Tully Smyth: [00:21:05] I
Jess Lucas: [00:21:05] don't know, seafoam, whatever it was. Um,
Tully Smyth: [00:21:09] you were at fire that day, you were on fire. You were in good form.
Jess Lucas: [00:21:12] If I need to do shots, gin shots, every, every
Tully Smyth: [00:21:15] episode, I think also it makes such a difference.
Like we're recording this again, guys visor. It makes such a difference being in person. Don't you think? Yeah, absolutely vibes. Also I, when I was looking back on that, um, clip that you guys made. I should put it onto my tele. Um, I did get it from Tommy, but it was like widescreen, not upside down, but horizontal, not vertical format.
Um, you have lost so much weight, right? I looked up and I was like with the clips when they put them together like that, all the changes amaze my head, like either goes long, short, blonde, dark. Um, but you are a different person. To our first app, my face, I lose it in my
Jess Lucas: [00:21:57] face,
Tully Smyth: [00:21:58] which is amazing. That's where I like, if I could lose this little fat pocket under my chin, that'd be great.
But I guess seeing you, you know, sort of from shoulders up last, however many months, I don't, I didn't really, I couldn't really tell, but can you talk us through it? Cause you've had a literal body transformation,
Jess Lucas: [00:22:13] so I've been seeing a nutritionist, um, just a friend. Uh, and, and so I've been seeing her a couple of times, uh, during COVID and locked down.
Didn't see her. Sorry, zoom, obviously. Yes, and yes. So she kind of like overhauled my diet and I think I just had the time to actually focus on the food. Uh, and obviously I did do quite a bit of boxing and training outside of that. So I kind of just ate whatever I wanted back then, um, with like a healthy lens, I suppose, but now it's, it's very much down to lack macros and, um, eating what your body needs.
Uh, I've been supplementing and yeah,
Tully Smyth: [00:22:49] like it's not. I'm still
Jess Lucas: [00:22:51] drinking. I'm still, I still eight. That's still living your life in my life.
Tully Smyth: [00:22:55] Yeah. Can we share how much you've lost? Cause I know it's a massive number 10 kilos. But you look great. You look great before, but it was, it wasn't until I saw you in person, I was like, Holy shit, what the fuck?
Where's the other half of you gone? Like, it's like an adult when a doubt. It's SNL. And she was like, so I've left half of me back home.
Jess Lucas: [00:23:16] Yeah, I think, um, yeah, I was just a bit unhealthy maybe the side of the year and, um, was making some bad choices in food.
Tully Smyth: [00:23:25] Yeah.
Jess Lucas: [00:23:26] I should say rather than healthy ones,
Tully Smyth: [00:23:28] it happens.
It happens. Speaking of, I. For some God unknown reason. I said to Peter, the other night, I said, Peter, how do you feel about having a grumpy house mate for the week? She was like, what, what, why? What's not good? She's like, not into that. No. Can I say no, I have agreed to do a fucking juice cleanse. I know I will, because I want to see if I can, like, so I've done one before I did one, a couple of years ago, the same one, the comic cleanse Jews Queensland.
And what. Prove to me. And what I found was most interesting, what I took away from it. First of all, I was grumpy as hell. I get so much enjoyment out of, not out of food itself, out of the, the tradition of sitting down with someone for a meal. I love, I plan my day around my meals, especially Dina, you know, you're like, I'm like, wait a minute for dinner tonight.
I don't want to see my am. I seeing my friends? Am I going to meet my friend for lunch today? Like, what am I doing or is cute
Jess Lucas: [00:24:21] boy, making me lasagna.
Tully Smyth: [00:24:24] Someone maybe do like meals on wheels from scratch. Um, so no distraction. Sorry. That's okay. Um,
Jess Lucas: [00:24:34] anyway,
Tully Smyth: [00:24:35] yes. So, um, I really love the tradition of sitting down with a loved one and sharing food.
And so taking that away from me made me really, I felt lonely. I felt sad. I was grumpy. Um, also as, as we all know my diet, isn't great. Generally it's quite high in sugar and salt that and alcohol. Um, so when you take away all those things, um, I get tension today. Yeah, exactly. But what I thought was really interesting loss on my data and I'm entering to see how I go this time, especially coming out of lockdown and locked down diet, which we all know it was horrendous for everybody.
Um, it made me realize how much I put in my body and how much I eat that it's not necessary. Um, you know, once you've not been able to eat anything except for your fucking three, four juices, whatever the fuck they are, I'm excited for the bone broth. That's the only thing I'm excited about.
Jess Lucas: [00:25:23] Ah, I fucking hate bone broth.
Tully Smyth: [00:25:26] I
Jess Lucas: [00:25:26] don't
Tully Smyth: [00:25:26] it's disgusting. Malicious. It feels so fulfilling. It's like miso soup. It like hits a spot. You didn't know you needed hit.
Jess Lucas: [00:25:33] Well, maybe it's just the one I got of it. I was like dry reaching. Cause that was one of the things that they wanted me to stop drinking every day, a cup of bone broth. I was like, I can't do it.
I'm sorry. It's discussing it smells like that. Dirty barbecue smell.
Tully Smyth: [00:25:46] I love it. I think it's really satisfying. It makes me like, Ooh, woman. Crazy. Um, yeah. So when you only have like the four juices a day and then you're suddenly allowed to eat whatever you want, you're suddenly like, Oh, do I need like the 75 snacks a day?
Like. I have my breakfast. Do I need to, when I need to ate like four other three biscuits, two Twiggy sticks, couple of cheese slices. I need all that shit, but can I just have my three meals a day? Do you know what I mean? Yeah. But eight to eight 28, just cause I'm bored. Have three tablespoons of global ice cream from the punnet.
Jess Lucas: [00:26:20] Probably not. No, but she not. It's unfortunate actually. It's not, it was actually very lucky, but. You get sent things as well. So like how can you say no,
Tully Smyth: [00:26:30] what's the thing. Right? So fridge at the moment, it's like, it looks like a seven 11. We've got complete shout. We've got my new favorite drink.
This is not sponsored by the way. I'm just actually obsessed with it. Vita Mellon, sparkling. Um, we've got a bunch of stuff in there. I've got a massive lolly jar of Skittles on my fridge. It just sits there. Yeah.
Jess Lucas: [00:26:48] I couldn't have that stuff in my house. I just continue if it's there.
Tully Smyth: [00:26:52] I'm pretty good. I'm I'm yeah.
I mean, as a box of chocolate in a fridge that just don't get touched. Um, but yeah, so that would be interested in the fridge.
Jess Lucas: [00:27:00] Tele what have we spoken about?
Tully Smyth: [00:27:02] No, sorry. In my pantry chocolate in the pantry, I keep mine in the pantry. All my Peter widow keeps hers in the fridge. It's something else that I'm excited about.
That's coming up. Jess is our work Christmas party. Yes. So you and I work where you work. We as a company, big media company who have a bunch of podcasts, um, one of which is mine, correct, which is how we met. Um, and then we also obviously work closely with the boys, told me and Josh and Mason, George, and the rest of the team.
I'm a little concerned. What are
Jess Lucas: [00:27:40] you concerned about?
Tully Smyth: [00:27:41] Well, we haven't had, this is our, this is gonna be our first chance to get lit, like probably lit on our Christmas party is already next level. Anyway, like that's a next level event, you know, you're like this isn't like a Sunday sesh or like a Friday night dinner and then maybe drinks afterwards.
This is a Christmas party. This is an old day, whole night event.
Jess Lucas: [00:28:02] It does start early. Doesn't it?
Tully Smyth: [00:28:04] We've never combined forces. You've not seen me actually drunk.
Jess Lucas: [00:28:08] No, I haven't. And I'm pumped as for it.
Tully Smyth: [00:28:10] And I thought I got to, I got ahead. I got a tiny little, like tiny little trailer of you drunk and it was wild.
So I'm a little concerned. I'm concerned that. One of us is gonna die. We're gonna, yeah,
Jess Lucas: [00:28:24] we're gonna need to be looked after I think. So it starts a, to the first venue. Do you
Tully Smyth: [00:28:29] want me to tell you what it is? Yes. Well, yes. Okay.
Jess Lucas: [00:28:33] Caulking canvas. We're doing painting and wine.
Tully Smyth: [00:28:37] I've wanted this for so long. I've said, I said to the podcast canvas, but hang on.
I'm also so competitive and I'm going to be so shit at it and I'm going to be, and then I get cranky that I'm bad. No. That's
Jess Lucas: [00:28:49] okay. So
Tully Smyth: [00:28:50] you want to be really good. You're like super creative and like you have all these weird little talents and skills that no one knows about like calligraphy and woodwork.
Jess Lucas: [00:28:58] I'm really bad. And the picture that we're drawing. Okay. I want to get your thoughts on
Tully Smyth: [00:29:02] it. Okay. What if you pick the picture? Yeah.
Jess Lucas: [00:29:05] So I picked a picture, but there was two options. One, we choose a picture and we all do it. So there's 12 of us coming. Um, and so yeah, we had to do that and we all do the same one or we get into pairs and we draw each other.
And so I thought it would be funny for you and me to draw each other and then the boys to join each other. And then, you know, the other podcasts in their partnerships.
Tully Smyth: [00:29:27] And we really want to do that.
Jess Lucas: [00:29:28] Well. Yeah, no, I think we decided in the end that we would just do the one picture and then we can compare.
Say whose is the best. We can maybe have like a voting competition afterwards.
Tully Smyth: [00:29:38] Oh God. But it'd be great content to do each other. Wouldn't it? It would be great, but I'd be you. I wouldn't do justice. I wouldn't do a beauty justice stop. You'd be a fucking stick figure. Like it
Jess Lucas: [00:29:48] would be, it'd be awful like there anymore.
Tully Smyth: [00:29:51] You'd be like, I just. Oh, I just hate being bad at things, but
Jess Lucas: [00:29:56] you know what? You'll be good at
Tully Smyth: [00:29:57] drinking, drinking.
Jess Lucas: [00:29:59] Cause we're going to be drinking.
Tully Smyth: [00:30:00] I will be good at drinking that I can do. I can drink. I can look like a fish. I'm excited. I'm really excited. What are you guys? What is your family do for Christmas?
What's Christmas look like with the Lucas family. So we
Jess Lucas: [00:30:09] alternate between my house and my cousin's house, and then our grandpop just come over to whoever's. It is. Um, but we're getting to that stage in our lives now where people have boyfriends and partners and kids and stuff, and they need to go off to their own family things, which makes me sad as a single person, because I'm, yeah,
Tully Smyth: [00:30:26] I just
Jess Lucas: [00:30:26] want my
Tully Smyth: [00:30:27] family to
Jess Lucas: [00:30:28] be altogether.
Like I want all of my cousins, I want it to be like childhood because we don't have any kids in our family. So, and also my is single the other one. Is in inner long-term relationship, but yeah, so she's not always there, so
Tully Smyth: [00:30:42] it's a bit
Jess Lucas: [00:30:42] unfortunate, but, um, I love our Christmases, especially when we have the pools to be able to swim in.
And it's hard enough for that.
Tully Smyth: [00:30:50] So you get back to bed and go, obviously
Jess Lucas: [00:30:51] Bendigo. Yeah, that's right.
Tully Smyth: [00:30:52] I can imagine it'd be like a real traditional affair.
Jess Lucas: [00:30:55] Yeah. What about you?
Tully Smyth: [00:30:58] I mean, Christmas hasn't really been the same since mom got sick mum, wasn't, you know, the Christmas fairy, she, um, She made sure that we had the most amazing Christmas.
She went above and beyond every year. Like we used to like make, um, my great-grandmother had like a really delicious shortbread recipe and we'd make that together every year. And there was always a huge real tree, always a real tree. You guys rail a fight
Jess Lucas: [00:31:20] with that? Do you know what? My mom's a bit of a Grint she's um, she keeps threatening to not put the Christmas tree up each year and each year we have to be like, no mom, you're putting it up.
It doesn't feel like Christmas without it.
Tully Smyth: [00:31:31] Yeah. Well, Realist had a real Trey hates presence. We had stockings, I mean, Santa sacks. And, um, and then yeah, when mom got sick, kind of, it just became really hard and also sad. It was like a really big elephant in the room. It was like, well, we're missing one. Um, and then when mum went into her care home, it was even worse because we'd, you know, either spend Christmas Eve or Christmas day, we'd go visit her at the care home.
And that was just fucking depressing. Yeah. So the past couple of years, this will be, uh, our second Christmas about mum. Um, so it's not the first. So, you know, the hardest one was last year, but. Usually we get together at my dad's place in Hornsby. So I fly home to Sydney, get together at my dad's place in Hornsby, we have a lunch.
It's always, it's always the same. It's like barbecue. Chicken is delicious, barbecue chicken that we all love with this special, like sauce on it that we've loved since we were kids. Um, prawns obviously. Yes. Crunchy bread. Um, like, Oh, like roast potatoes. Dad makes the best respirators. Um, and then we have usually have that lunch, just the four of us.
Um, well, sometimes my, um, brother's girlfriend, Anna will join us because Tom's girlfriend Frankie lives down here in Melbourne. So she's not always with us. Yep. And then the afternoon, I, every year for the past, I think now Tammy's, I think really it's my 11th year. I go to my best friend Sophie's house.
This is now a second shutout out. I didn't realize I had used her name. So she got to shout out last episode on the Abbey episode because she did Abby's makeup for, um, reality rehab, the TV show. It was on. All right. Okay. And she texted me, she was like, Oh, my first shout out. And I was like, she mentioned you before now.
So, so here is your second shout out. Um, every year for the past 10 years, I've gone to serfs family home, uh, in Chatswood, uh, she's Greek and they have this. Massive, you know, these long white table, they have all their friends and family over. She has a yagya there who was Savage as fuck. She just insult us every year.
She tells us she's like, who's she tells you who's put on weight. She looks good. She's like, why are you still single? Where's where's your boyfriend? Um, And it's like a speed. It's always a speed. So I think that like lamb, she should
Jess Lucas: [00:33:44] have bloody love. I want to marry a great person.
Tully Smyth: [00:33:47] Oh my God. And then dad does like fresh barbecue.
Seafood on barbecue is like calamari. And then his mom Jane, um, I'm a sucker for pavlova. Now, when I say that I love Lova. I didn't mean like, I can't wait for Christmas to have a pebble, but I mean that her mom now has to make me my own pavlova because I eat. Basically a whole pavlova. Oh, wow. So usually, yeah, it's a, it's a real, it's like.
I used to have a bit, very big stomach. And then suddenly I'm 25th of December. Every year suddenly can eat like anything. Yeah.
Jess Lucas: [00:34:21] Christmas doesn't count. And also you, it's not Christmas if you're not feeling, you know, making yourself sick. That kind of
Tully Smyth: [00:34:26] honestly like the wedges I get out. Like, I don't even, I'm like, why am I even cutting this?
Just give me the plate. Um, so for the past couple of years, there's usually a problem over there. And because they have that lunch during the day, I'm sort of with my family, I get this sort of in the afternoon about four. Um, so people have been already been in the penalty box, so just not usually enough left for me.
So now they make two pavlovas specifically for me. That's great. Yeah. And that's always, that's always really fun. That's sort of feels like my Christmas. Um, I think that, and I'm sure a lot of people listening, you know, Christmas can be a really hard time for people. Um, it's a hard time for me. Uh, every year.
It's, it's tough if you're away from family. Um, if you don't have very close family, I think it's important to, to make it your own. And for many, many years now, you know, my friends have, have been a huge part of my Christmas. Um, I think that's okay. You know, Christmas is as long as you are people you love, then when you have a tree, whether you don't do, you know, the Turkey, whether you don't do presents, as long as you spend the day with people you love.
But I think, um, you're very lucky and I'm very lucky to spend the day with people I love. Yeah.
Jess Lucas: [00:35:32] So when are you going up to Sydney?
Tully Smyth: [00:35:34] I fly home on the 16th of December, which is a day after my brother's Scott's birthday. Yeah.
Jess Lucas: [00:35:42] How you
Tully Smyth: [00:35:42] feeling? You excited. And I am obviously I'm, I'm sorry. I'm so excited. I haven't seen my family in so long.
Um, why am I now? Yeah, obviously I just got a bit emotional. Um, haven't seen him in a long time and. As my friends, ADA, and there's been a lot, that's happened. My friends who've gotten engaged. Um, my friends are in the middle of IVF, so there's a lot going on up there that I've missed out on. So I'm really excited to get up there and I give them all a really big hug and kiss.
Jess Lucas: [00:36:07] Yeah. Yeah. I bet. Yeah. We'd
Tully Smyth: [00:36:09] like going, yeah. I feel weighted. I feel a bit anxious about it.
Jess Lucas: [00:36:13] Yeah. Sorry. The first weekend I got back, I just felt. It was great. Don't get me wrong, but it really did feel, I just felt off, which is weird because I had no reason to feel off because it was so good to see everyone and talk to everyone and whatnot.
We had so much to catch up on, but I think just being out of my main, particularly this apartment, like I didn't really leave here or the South Yarra area. So yeah. Going back to Bendigo and being in a different environment often, having not been there for four and a half, five months, Yeah. I feel like I heard that a lot as well through a lot of my friends who did the same thing.
Tully Smyth: [00:36:47] yeah, I think a lot of people are feeling that I think people are feeling that even just, you know, going back out and seeing their friends. I know a lot of my friends have struggled with feeling overwhelmed, um, you know, feeling anxious. Um, it's, it's a big change to go from being in our house 24 seven for such a long time, 112 days.
I think it was to suddenly having the freedom. Um, yeah, it's overwhelming. I think it's completely reasonable response and I feel similar to going home. I'm obviously excited. I am excited, but I'm also, yeah, I'm anxious about it. It's going to be weird
Jess Lucas: [00:37:21] going on a plane.
Tully Smyth: [00:37:22] Oh my God. I can't even imagine how that's going to it's even.
I went down to Germana a couple of weekends ago, um, to spend some time at my friend's beach house. And even just packing a toiletries bag. I was like, I haven't done this because I'm someone who travels so much usually with my job. Right. Like I travel a lot. Um, I'm so used. I use like, it takes me three seconds to pack a suitcase and I was like putting my toothbrush pretty much.
I was like this way, packing a little bag and I have, I got everything. Yeah. Well, it's just nice. You know, I know that we talk about this. It's been such a fucking weird year, hasn't it? And it's just kind of nice to feel like it really is slowly getting back to normal. You know, even now we can go for a walk here in Victoria.
We can go for a walk without a mask. Um, I think we can have like 50 people or something or something ridiculous. So for our first isn't it. Yeah. Weddings. How back to 150 people venues are basically at normal capacity. Um, yeah, I just, I think for a long time, people were wondering whether it would ever get to this point.
Jess Lucas: [00:38:21] Feels so good. I'm so glad we can have a somewhat normal Christmas,
Tully Smyth: [00:38:25] right? That's all I need. Now. Now is the parade pool to open up? That is my usual. I think you have to like book a spot to sweet like book of swim. I think you can just go sit. Cause I, when it's a hot day, I go sit there on the grass. I read my book, uh, jumping in, cool off rebrand book, jumping in and cool off read my book.
Like it's like, it's my thing. Yeah. Get a sausage, sausage roll. They have the best sausage rolls there ever heads up. If you're in the Pratt area. Um, but yeah, once that opens, I really feel like summer is back to being back to being normal.
Jess Lucas: [00:38:57] Yeah. I can't wait for a few beach days.
Tully Smyth: [00:38:59] I kinda imagined you at the beach at all.
You're so pale,
Jess Lucas: [00:39:03] but I'm not,
Tully Smyth: [00:39:04] I'm actually not. I've got Jessica.
Jess Lucas: [00:39:07] I know
Tully Smyth: [00:39:08] I told you, but English Rose skin.
Jess Lucas: [00:39:11] I really don't. I used to be, I used to go really like, okay, what
Tully Smyth: [00:39:15] would you call it? But don't you think? Okay. If I'm olive come on. Not only, Oh my God. It's so quiet. I'm darker than you. Do you seriously?
Think you're darker than me on this side? Truly,
Jess Lucas: [00:39:28] honestly, this is winter for one. Me
Tully Smyth: [00:39:30] too. I'm not fake tan at all. Nava. You to me are like, you're, you're pale and I'm old.
Jess Lucas: [00:39:39] Oh my God. I'm going to tell mom to find some photos of when I used to attend really well.
Tully Smyth: [00:39:44] We haven't, first of all, no such thing as this, as a safe tag guys, the only way to tan, the only safe way to tad is to fake it.
Um, I'm really, really strongly believe in that. Uh, I just feel like. It's funny to me that you think you darker than me like that, you know what guys guarded too much tele Instagram page and have a look at the videos from the episode with drew and you tell me. Whose DACA, this is on me. I had freshly sprayed a bike tab.
That's probably not exactly the most appropriate video to look at, but
Jess Lucas: [00:40:17] so I'm going to do a fake tan before our Christmas party next week.
Tully Smyth: [00:40:20] Ooh, maybe she had a spray. Tad. What are you gonna wear? Um, I
Jess Lucas: [00:40:24] bought a dress online cause I saw my friend was wearing and I was like, that'd be great for the Christmas party.
Um, I need to go pick it up. So it's just a
Tully Smyth: [00:40:32] bit of a, we have a theme. Is it going to be like, we have a theme
Jess Lucas: [00:40:35] now we don't have a theme. I just think that's too hard with, um, all the different characters we have working at BMC, so we don't have the same style. So I was like, everyone do your own thing. And then, uh, cause it's quite messy.
I'll try and find a beer or something for them.
Tully Smyth: [00:40:49] Or else you're going to find his bibs.
Jess Lucas: [00:40:51] Yeah. Other that it was just massive garbage bags and we can just Chuck a head through it.
Tully Smyth: [00:40:55] What did you used to do when you a little, um, free school when you had like paint days and they'd tell you to bring your dad's mock old?
No, they'd give you the, we used to have, we told to bring, uh, um, an old shirt of our dad's and we wear it backwards. So you'd put your arms in and then you'd paint and it would protect you.
Jess Lucas: [00:41:13] Yeah.
Tully Smyth: [00:41:14] Okay. Well just made memories of that.
Jess Lucas: [00:41:15] Yeah. If you want to bring your dad's show, go
Tully Smyth: [00:41:18] ahead. Might be tricky. Uh, I'm not going to be like, Hey dad, could you mail me down a shirt?
See the Melbourne so I can wear it. Yeah. Um, okay. Okay. So no theme. All right. I'll have to think about it.
Jess Lucas: [00:41:32] Yeah. I mean you and I could maybe like somewhat coordinate if you wanted to. Just so we're on the same level, not outfits because we tend to do that a bit. Anyway.
Tully Smyth: [00:41:39] I know I'm disappointed ID haven't even commented on my no effects Taisha.
Oh, I love
Jess Lucas: [00:41:43] it. It's great. Um, I mean, you didn't tell me to wear my bandwagon before we got on, so
Tully Smyth: [00:41:47] I just sent you a telepathic telepathic, telepathic.
Jess Lucas: [00:41:52] Yep. Tell him, tell message message. Hey, speaking of how are you feeling since our medium episode with David?
Tully Smyth: [00:42:03] That was also a lot. Yeah. We've had a big month of, I know.
I think what people don't realize is that I've said this before, but like those episodes really take it out of me and then it's so lovely and please never stopped doing it. But once we drop the episode, I then get like hundreds of messages of people sharing their own stories. And as an empath, you know, I engage and I raid and I.
It's responded into that. So, you know, even more, yeah, it's always a big week.
Jess Lucas: [00:42:35] Uh,
Tully Smyth: [00:42:37] well, it's been interesting. I have been saying a lot more little signs of my mum everywhere. Um, I always to say, Hey mom, let's see one. Yeah. Um, the feedback was amazing. My friends and family, especially like my closest friends, like could not believe, I think the closer you are to me, the more you realize how spot on he is with stuff.
Um, just little things that, you know, if you've known me for 10 plus years, you're like, Oh my God, that's crazy. Um, they all find it really creepy and amazing. Like they all like this. Guy's legit also, interestingly, um, Peyto reminded me of something that he predicted. That's kind of come true. Well, if you guys remember, he was like, Oh, you know, um, can I don't mean to sound rude or like, feel free to cut this out, but are you into black guys?
And I was like, who isn't into black guys. Yeah. Yeah. So this guy I've met, he's Hoff, Sri Lankan. So he's not black, but he's very tend. Yeah. Yeah. I thought that was quite interesting. That is interesting.
Jess Lucas: [00:43:47] I mean, you've just given everyone else another hint.
Tully Smyth: [00:43:50] How can you, what do you mean? How is that a hint? So
Jess Lucas: [00:43:53] now everyone can narrow it down.
Tully Smyth: [00:43:55] How
Jess Lucas: [00:43:57] just look for the Sri Lankan looking guys.
Tully Smyth: [00:44:01] All right. Trust me out. I've already had a stressful week with this shit.
Jess Lucas: [00:44:05] Guys, let her leave. I alone about it. When we're
Tully Smyth: [00:44:08] able to give me a minute, give me a minute. Just let me leave my life. Like
Jess Lucas: [00:44:13] in fact, we'll get him on when he's ready and you're ready.
Tully Smyth: [00:44:16] And
Jess Lucas: [00:44:18] to the relationship for you,
Tully Smyth: [00:44:20] I don't know if he'll ever agree to that.
He's very private. He hates social media, which I am so into. I'm like whole office. It honestly, I feel like that's what you need. Truly like, that's the best thing about this guy. He is very grounding for me. Very chilled out, very grounding. Um, yeah, I'm a little bit of a smitten kitten, but um, we'll leave it at that.
Joey dude. She's
